How can you make a difference in people’s lives?

We are seeking a Health Tech I, who is fluent in one of BHSD’s threshold languages: Spanish. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving diverse communities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to deliver culturally competent services.

The Health Technician I position is responsible for screening clients for potential medical and or mental health problems meeting 5150 criteria, withdrawal severity referring to definitive medical and or mental health care when appropriate. Provide medical and or mental health care within scope of practice. Monitor and document withdrawal symptoms and mental health symptoms.

What will make you successful in this role?
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the State of California
  • A.A. Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Able to cover shifts which include overnights, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Experience working with clients dealing with alcohol and drug addiction/mental health.
  • Able to work with diverse populations, cultures and people with co-occurring disorders and disabilities.
  •  Able to handle and de-escalate emergency situations.
  • Comfortable and skilled in time management
  • Ability to collaborate with the team internally and coordinate/collaborate with external partners including (but not limited to) case managers, psychiatrists, social workers, referral sources, medical care personnel, etc.
  • Must show a demonstrated knowledge of computers; including but not limited to, data input, internet navigation, Microsoft word, etc.  Ability to write clear narrative reports and treatment notes.

What else is required?
  • Valid California Driver's license and auto insurance, excellent driving record a must.
  • Current CPR/First-aid training
  • Fingerprinting/Drug testing required at time of hire.
  • Preferred: Bilingual Spanish

Salary: $20.00-$22.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
